em-smart AXI 3D Laser Marking Machine Beginner’s Operation Guide
Getting started with a new 3D Laser Marking Machine can feel challenging, especially if this is your first laser engraving system. Proper setup, software installation, and focusing are important steps to ensure accurate and stable engraving results.
The em-smart AXI is designed as a True 3D Laser Marking Machine that allows users to engrave not only flat surfaces but also curved and complex shapes with dynamic Z-axis control. However, before creating your first project, it is important to complete the initial setup correctly.
In this tutorial, we will guide you through the first-time startup process of the em-smart AXI, including machine preparation, software connection, focusing, and your first engraving operation.
1. Unbox and Prepare Your em-smart AXI
Before powering on your em-smart AXI for the first time, carefully unpack the machine and complete the initial preparation steps. Proper setup helps ensure safe operation and prevents issues that may arise during transportation.
Step 1: Check the Machine After Unboxing
After receiving your 3D Laser Marking Machine, first inspect the machine exterior and accessories to make sure there is no visible damage during shipping.
To protect the laser system during transportation, the em-smart AXI is secured with four hand-tightened knob screws. These screws are designed to keep the internal structure stable and prevent movement during delivery.
Before starting the machine:
1. Remove the four hand-tightened knob screws from the machine column.
2. Remove the laser protective cover from the field lens.
Important:
Do not power on the machine before removing the transportation fixing screws and the field lens protective cover. Operating the machine without removing these protections may affect the machine movement and engraving performance.
Step 2: Connect the Machine
After completing the initial inspection, connect the em-smart AXI according to the connection diagram provided.
Follow these steps to start the machine:
1. Connect the power cable and required cables as shown in the connection guide.
2. Release the emergency stop button by rotating it clockwise.
3. Press and hold the power button for approximately 3 seconds.
The em-smart AXI will turn on and enter the activation process. When the machine powers on successfully, the system is ready for the next setup steps.
2. Install em-smart AXI Software
Before operating your em-smart AXI 3D Laser Marking Machine, you need to install the control software, complete the driver installation, and import the correct machine configuration files.
Follow the steps below to complete the initial software setup:
Step 1: Install the em-smart AXI Software
The software installation package is included on the USB drive provided with your machine.
1. Open the USB drive and locate the software installation package.
2. Right-click the installation file and select "Run as administrator".
3. Follow the installation instructions to complete the software installation.
4. After the installation is completed, a driver configuration window will appear.
Select the following options:
Driver: UMC4
Company: JPT
Profile: JPT_YDFLP_SP
5. Click "OK" to complete the driver installation.
Note: UMC4 is the marking control card model used by the em-smart AXI system.
Step 2: Import the Correct Configuration Files
After installing the driver, you need to copy the corresponding configuration files into the software folder.
1. Find the em-smart software shortcut on your desktop.
2. Right-click the shortcut and select "Open file location".
3. Open the following folders: Drivers-UMC4-cfg
4. Copy the three configuration files from the installation package into the cfg folder.

Step 3: Load the Machine Configuration File
After copying the configuration files:
1. Return to the em-smart software installation folder.
2. Find and open: DM.exe This is the Configuration Manager.
3. Select the configuration file corresponding to your machine model.

After selecting the correct configuration file, the machine driver setup is complete.
Step 4: Import the Machine Calibration File
The final step is importing the calibration file that matches your machine's serial number.
1. Restart the em-smart software.
2. Click "New File".
3. Click the em-smart logo in the top-left corner.
4. Select "Configuration Import/Export"
5. Import the calibration file corresponding to your machine's SN Code.
6. Click "Import".
When all items display "Complete", click "OK" to finish the calibration file import.
Your em-smart AXI is now correctly configured and ready for the next setup steps.
3. Focus the Laser and First Marking Test
Congratulations! You have completed the software installation and machine configuration. Now it is time to perform the first test with your em-smart 3D Laser Marking Machine.
In this step, you will learn how to select the laser source, adjust the focus position, preview the marking area, and complete your first engraving.
Step 1: Select Laser Source
1. Open the em-smart AXI software.
2. In the left-side Property Table, find: "Work Area" → "Lens"
From the dropdown menu, select the laser source you want to use: Fiber/Diode
After selecting the lens, disable the following three options under the Galvo settings:
X Reverse
Y Reverse
XY Exchange
3. Click "Apply" to save the settings.
After this adjustment, the marking direction on the machine will match the direction displayed in the software interface.
Step 2: Adjust the Laser Focus
After powering on the machine, place your engraving material on the marking plate.
The machine will project two red laser dots onto the material surface.
Use the electric lifting buttons located on the side of the machine to move the laser head up or down.
Adjust the height until the two red dots overlap into one single point. When the two red dots completely coincide, the focus adjustment is complete.
Step 3: Adjust the Engraving Parameters
Adjust the engraving parameters according to your material and marking requirements.
Step 4: Preview Your First Engraving Project
Create or import a graphic in the software workspace.
1. Select the graphic you want to engrave.
2. Click "Preview" to check the engraving position.
The preview function provides two modes:
Bounding Preview
Shows the outer boundary of the engraving area. Use this mode to quickly confirm whether the marking position is correct.
Full Path Preview
Shows the complete laser movement path. Use this mode to check the actual engraving trajectory before starting the job. After confirming the engraving position, you are ready to start marking.
Step 5: Start Your First Laser Marking
To begin engraving:
1. Click the spark-shaped button in the upper-right corner of the software interface.
2. The marking window will appear.
3. Click "Exec" to start the engraving process.
The em-smart AXI will now begin your first laser marking operation. Congratulations! You have successfully completed the first startup and basic operation test of your 3D Laser Marking Machine.
